Death
Death is the narrator of this story. This its self is rather unique, I have never read a book in such a way. He is a pretty compelling character, during his narration he pauses and gives background story, or provides us with a description of the town and its people. Death sees all, he knows everyone's story. Which if you think about it does not give him one perspective, but many. The conflicts he faces is the fact that he is death, but for some reason is infatuated with this young girl. Hes not sure of the reason for the infatuation but he knows that he thinks about her a lot and knows her story well as he says in the beginning. I very much like this character, I love reading her story through his eyes. I also like his pauses which help explain whats going on in the book.

I also love the fact that death is an omniscient narrator in the story. I never have read anything like this either. It makes it so much more interesting I think, and gives us, as the reader, so much more insight by the way the scenes and plot are described by him.
ReplyDeleteThe use of death as the narrator in this novel made this story so much more interesting and different. In my eyes using death as a character was a great plot device for the novel. Since death goes hand in hand with war I feel like it helped the reader connect better. It was interesting to see the different moods of death, it really made "it" compare to a human-like character.
ReplyDeleteThe pauses and the insight are very helpful throughout the book and really helps to connect the story. Using death as the narrator was very appropriate for the holocaust. Death was able to highlight details from the story and created a lot of imagery. It highlighted many moods, thoughts, actions and issues throughout the novel
ReplyDeleteYes, first of all I love how the author makes Death the narrator. It makes it so much more interesting and also poetic in its own way. The imagery and way he words his sentences make it very fun to read. I also love how he would let us in on what is going on, it allows us to see things clearer and through his eyes.
